Like many before me, I started mucking stalls in exchange for lessons on various
ponies at an early age. My appreciation and love for this sport became fairly obvious
then and I began to nurture a hobby that would later prove to fill a much larger
part of my life.
Throughout my junior-high and high school career I rode both hunters and jumpers
for two schools I attended in
California
and in
Maryland
. Later I returned to
Texas
to ride as a junior with Phillip DeVita out of
Dallas
and later with Jim and Joan Waterman located in the
Houston
area.
After college I returned to riding and showing full time as an amateur again with
Jim and Joan Waterman, and in 2000 I showed my mare Softly Spoken to a Texas Hunter
and Jumper Association (THJA) 3rd place year end award as well as a United
States Equestrian Federation (USEF) Zone 7 Reserve Champion award in the Adult Amateur
division.
In 2001 I received the THJA and USEF Zone 7 Reserve Champion year end award in the
Adult Amateur Hunter division once again on Softly Spoken.
In 2002 I received the THJA A/O Champion year end award and the USEF Zone 7 3rd
place finish on Harvest.
In 2004 I declared my professional status to work for top
Texas
trainers such as Jim and Joan Henson, Russell Frey, and Kevin and Julie Cleveland.
During my tenure with those trainers I was at times employed as a manager,
assistant trainer, and rider. A very well rounded education!
From 2005 forward I began judging horse shows for the GHHJA (Greater Houston Hunter
Jumper Association), San Jac Hunter Jumper Association, and the CenTex Horse Show Association.
Since 2005 I have been riding, teaching, and training for several different barns
in the
Houston
area and in 2007 I accepted a position as a member of the 2007 GHHJA Board of Directors
which I held until this year.
I am currently the President of the GHHJA, manager, trainer and rider.
